after an amazingly uplifting friday night, i awoke to a saturday morning with nothing to do. which is such a rarity for a photographer, but instead of letting any judgment creep in, Aaron and I set out for some estate sales. which are my favorite thing, ever.
not only do i love to find bargains, i love anything old (much to Aaron’s chagrin). i never tire of the thrill of finding some hidden gem in a thrift store, some forgotten relic in an estate sale, basically, anything someone else might say is just junk.
in fact, earlier this week i won this amazing vintage coach satchel on ebay for just $20. it might smell like an ashtray still, but i think that will eventually lift as i continue to use this classic style well into my adult years.
just last week i found these shoes at a neighbor’s garage sale for 50 cents!
and at my local savers (these are the kinds of places i frequent on my lunch break), i found this braided belt…
…and las vegas sequined hat. Aaron might think it is the ugliest hat in existence, but you better believe i’ll be rockin it at this year’s wppi. booyah.
okay but i’m getting distracted! the estate sale!
here are some prints that we fell in love with, the first a vanity fair portrait. his outfit is pretty sweet, and the second, our favorite president a sketching of honest Abe from 1923!
a nice wooden crate. this will likely be making an appearance at shannon + jeff’s wedding coming up at the rengstorff house in mountain view…
…i will probably be doing a whole post on this book of illustrations because i have been so inspired by the whole thing. so simple, whimsical and beautifully illustrated. each illustration is funny and intelligent.
and i have saved the best for last. an eames style* lounge chair and ottoman. they threw in the book because we bought the chair. a real eames lounge chair goes for around $3200, and imitations even go for about $700-$800 resale. it just goes to show you what good design can accomplish.
*we think this is an imitation, because of the visible bolts on the outside and because the arm rests are not the same as the original, but it was still a steal, at about half the cost of other imitation eames loungers.
plus, we pretty much love it.
anyways. saturday pretty much rocked.
xoxo
